Welcome to Sandhamn Cup, a new harder Race generation with more challenge and higher demands on experience.
With a good study of the current and wind map at www.lazy.se you will probably do better in the race and a good suggestion is to have the webpages open meanwhile sailing, until you have the skill of experience.
The common thing is that the current is affected of land, bigger Islands affect more, and big island affect the wind speed much more then the smaller islands does.
The sail committee have convince the ship traffic centre to avoid the area at time the race is going on, in mostly cases the have succeed.
The current will newer flew through land, it will always flow around.
By that the direction follow land shape when close. The island will affect the wind so higher land reflecting winds and smaller does not. The wind speed behind land will be lower.
The news in the Sandhamn Cup series is that same Race can have different wind speed on different map, why they parts of the same Race map description.
If the wind speed go down to force 4 or lower the length of the race track will be shortened so the maximum time of 35 min never will be crossed. As in real life the weather is the joker in the game, and normally a exact fore cast will come ours before start. And that will be the condition in future concepts.
