WELCOME TO MARSTRAND
Marstrand is the west coast biggest Sail Harbour, placed 30 min from Göteborg, and many famous Sail Races are based there, ie. Skagerack Cup and Skaw Race. The area has also real current based on the Gulf Stream, who can be stronger off shore and also are depending on cind of weather.
My goal is to create a tactical map, with not too many big differences. The purpose is to create the real life problem in that area: What to choose - wind shift, or best way? I have worked for many hours to create a map with shifts and tidal differences, so the question can have different answers - as in real life.
In Marstrand there will be more islands, which will effect your tactical decisions in many different ways. It is also important to take a look at the real life chart to understand the current shifting’s direction in the VSK map.
The difference in the Marstrand series is a more natural wind pattern, shifting off the lowest two types of islands. Near the beach wind follows towards the beach a few degrees should the wind pass the beach between 160-180 degrees. High islands would instead reflect the wind out of wind ward side and inwards, creating a wind "follow around" effect, on the leeward side which also reduces windspeed up to 0,3 Nm out when behind, then slowly increasing.
The map: current directions are fixed with proportional speed and stronger/less current followed with the four Tides; Low, Flood, High and Ebb.
Marstrand has an off shore part, on west side, ca 40 degr over the whole map. The off shore area has stronger; Waves, Wind and current.
Gulf stream Speed with different Tides: High=100%, Ebb=40%, Low=20%, Flood=70%.
If the setting have Tide = Low at 06:00
- current at time: 06 -> 09 -> 12 -> 15 -> 18
will be changing: 20% -> 70% -> 100% -> 40% -> 20%.
Look at the sea map below - it explain the "Gulf Stream" way in the map. The Hi Land of Sweden is on the east side.
